FILM: ALOHA BUDDHA
Lorraine Minatoishi Palumbo, with the support of the Hawaii Architectural Foundation, has worked on several projects relating to the Japanese Temples in Hawaii. Lorraine, in partnership with the Hawaii Architectural Foundation, has raised approximately $50,000 to fund her efforts. What began as an endorsement for sponsoring a book has grown to encompass endorsement of a 20-minute video program to be aired on public television stations and the expansion of the current and ongoing exhibition of Japanese Temples in Hawaii. Hawaii’s unique Japanese Buddhist temples are historical markers that tell of an immigrant people who settled on the land, practicing their cultural and religious ceremonies while accepting and integrating into their country. Today, sadly, with the passing of the first and second generations, the temples of Hawaii are going through very difficult times – many of these beautiful temples are being neglected or are being closed and demolished.
