The Huaka‘i Awards, presented biennially by the Hawai‘i Architectural Foundation (HAF), honor those whose work reflects a lifelong commitment to advancing architecture, community, and the values that shape Hawai‘i’s built environment.
These awards celebrate more than achievement, they recognize years of consistent passion, collaboration, and purpose. Each honoree’s story is the result of teamwork, mentorship, and shared vision. Like a wa‘a (canoe), their journey is guided by a hui of friends, colleagues, clients, and community members who paddle together toward a greater goal.
Through this process, we are reminded that the destination is never as meaningful as the journey itself. Each of us plays a part in that voyage: supporting, inspiring, and learning alongside our awardees.
