MAUI COUNTY AFFORDABLE HOUSING DESIGN COMPETITION
The Maui County Affordable Housing Design Competition, organized through a collaboration between Maui County and AIA Maui, invites architects, designers, and students to propose visionary, buildable housing solutions that address Maui’s urgent need for affordable, climate-adapted, and culturally grounded homes. The competition features three prototype categories: Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU), Single-Family, and Multifamily housing.
By uniting design innovation with local values and real-world constraints, the competition seeks to accelerate housing delivery, streamline permitting, and inspire a new generation of resilient island housing. In addition to cash prizes, winning entries will be publicly exhibited. The competition aims to advance community conversation around housing on Maui and contribute meaningful steps toward addressing the county’s affordability crisis.
